It might be a moment of inattention, not clearly marked tank caps or a lack of experience \u2013 suddenly diesel gets accidentally into the motorhome\u2019s or the yacht\u2019s drinking water tank. And now \u2013 what should you do? It is very important that you act quickly especially if you have a plastic water tank.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Good to know:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0It is very hard to remove diesel completely from plastic tanks. The sooner you react, the easier it is to clean the tank. The\u00a0easy clean oil set<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will save the day.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Diesel in water tank \u2013 what should I do?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

1.<\/span><\/strong> Do NOT<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>open the water tap\u00a0NOR<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0flush the toilet. If possible, switch off the pump on the control board. If you want to play safe, turn off all fire sources and gas valves of all gas bottles.<\/p>\n

2.<\/span><\/strong> Remove the diesel from the drinking water tank as best as possible. First, pump out the water tank and then let the rest run out into a canister or an oil sump.<\/p>\n

3.<\/span><\/strong> Until the easy clean oil set arrives, you should put hot water and washing-up liquid into the tank. Then empty the tank and rinse it with clear water.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

Important notice:<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>Ensure that the mixture does\u00a0NOT<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0reach the sewage system, groundwater\u00a0NOR<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>surface water.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

4.<\/strong><\/span> Now it is time for a two-step rinsing with the easy clean oil set<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 1:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to clean the drinking water tank residue-free, put\u00a0easy clean oil absorb<\/strong><\/span> (ratio 1:10) into the water tank and fill it completely with water. You can also fill the tank alternatingly with easy clean oil absorb and water to get a better mix. After one hour<\/strong><\/span> empty the water tank and dispose of the mixture according to official regulations. Thoroughly rinse the tank three times<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0with clear water.<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0use\u00a0easy clean Comp. 1<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0easy clean Comp. 2<\/strong><\/span> (ratio 3:50) to disinfect and clean thoroughly the water tank. Add both cleaning agents to the drinking water tank and fill it completely with water OR<\/strong><\/span> you can give easy clean Comp. 1 and Comp. 2 in the half-full drinking water tank and fill it then completely with water. After one hour<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>empty the water tank and rinse thoroughly\u00a0two times<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0with clear water.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Please note the following:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0do\u00a0NOT<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0store the mixture in a closed container and do\u00a0NOT<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0close the drinking water tank during the cleaning process because oxygen is produced.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

5.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0The water is sterile and can be used without any concern. If you want to make sure that the water has drinking water quality, you can take a sample and have it examined by an institute.<\/p>\n

If diesel stays too long in a water tank or even the tap was used, in the worst case the tank and the water pipes must be replaced. Once more: acting quickly can save costs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
